A while back I posted some questions on my facebook page.  It was a fun way to get conversation started and I gathered lots of great ideas and suggestions.  In fact, you folks had so many great ideas that I just had to share them here for everyone to read! What are some of your reusable solutions for disposable items?

 Liz says “I use my plastic shopping bags to line my trash containers that hold recyclable items, and then I recycle them all together!”

What are some things that you make at home instead of buy?
“Salsa, until we run out anyway. We usually go through it before we have tomatoes again. And though we do not actually make firewood, we go out and cut our own with a firewood permit, rather than buying it from private sellers”

What are some of the biggest changes that you have made toward a healthier lifestyle, for both yourself and the environment?

Trying to grow our own produce. I don’t naturally have a green thumb, but I am really excited about the prospect of turning our yard into something that can produce healthy, organic food for my family.

What are some of your  reusable solutions to disposable items?


we wash out and reuse ziploc bags until they get holes, repurpose glass peanut butter jars for drinking glasses, and yogurt containers for paint and water cups for kid panting days. i use received envelopes and cut up paperboard food boxes to write grocery lists on (envelopes are nice because you can tuck coupons inside them).

“Clothes and toys mostly, and children’s books.  I borrow my books from the library since I typically only read them once.”
